Location
Situated between Skerray, Borgie, and Bettyhill in North West Sutherland, the hotel occupies a secluded Highland glen that puts some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery directly on the doorstep. Torrisdale Beach — a mile and a half of golden sand — is less than a mile away. Borgie Forest, with its network of walks, is similarly close. The rugged Skerray coastline wraps around the area, with views across to the islands of Neave and Eilean nan Ron.
The surrounding landscape belongs to what is often described as one of the last great scenic secrets of Europe: a wilderness of isolated mountains rising from ancient rock and open moorland, where you’ll find some of the highest sea cliffs and waterfalls on the continent.
Free private parking is available on site, with four electric vehicle chargers. The hotel also offers secure, covered storage for motorbikes and bicycles — a thoughtful detail that NC500 riders arriving after a long day in the saddle will particularly appreciate.
Rooms
The hotel offers five en-suite double rooms, three twin rooms, and a bunkhouse with two rooms sleeping one and four respectively. All doubles and twins come with superfast broadband, Smart TVs, and tea and coffee-making facilities. Two of the doubles and one of the twins also include a bath as well as a shower. The third twin has a private shower and toilet allocated to that room only. The bunkhouse rooms share bathroom facilities but include broadband and Smart TVs.
Rooms are individually themed and decorated with genuine care — think Highland cow motifs and countryside charm rather than generic hotel neutrals. Beds are comfortable, rooms are well-maintained, and small practical details such as USB ports, ample power sockets, and proper armchairs make the spaces feel considered rather than merely functional.
One minor note: bath towels are on the small side for the otherwise high standard of the rooms.
Restaurant & Bar
The food at Borgie Lodge is a serious draw. The kitchen works with quality local produce — venison, highland chicken, fish pie — and turns it into cooking that would hold its own well beyond the Highlands. A specials board supplements the main menu, and portions are unfailingly generous. Breakfast, pre-ordered the evening before, is cooked to order and well worth the small planning it requires.
The bar is well-stocked, comfortable, and warmed on cooler evenings by an open fire — exactly what you want after a day on exposed moorland. Dogs are welcome in the bar and in one of the two dining rooms. A private dining room is also available for those wanting a more secluded setting.
Tea and coffee facilities are provided in all rooms.

The hotel includes a lounge with open fire, a walled garden with picnic benches and mature trees, a drying room for wet-weather kit, laundry facilities, and meeting and banquet facilities. Superfast broadband runs throughout the building.
The service is where Borgie Lodge truly distinguishes itself. Owners Andi and her husband — who runs the kitchen — are warm, hands-on, and visibly proud of what they’ve built. Dog treats are provided on arrival for four-legged guests, and towels are left by the door for muddy paws. It is the kind of thoughtful, unhurried hospitality that is increasingly rare, and it sets the tone for the entire stay.
The hotel is fully dog-friendly, with dogs welcome in the bar, one dining room, and the gardens.
