Ahmedabad is the largest city in Gujarat and the seventh-largest urban agglomeration in India, located on the banks of the Sabarmati River. Founded in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah as a fortified capital of the Gujarat Sultanate, it later became famous as the “Manchester of India” for its thriving textile industry. The city also played a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle, with Mahatma Gandhi establishing his Sabarmati Ashram here and launching the Dandi March from it.
