Category Brasília

Brasília is the capital of Brazil, located on a high plateau in the country’s central region. Planned and built in the 1950s, it was designed to encourage development farther inland and officially became the capital in 1960, replacing Rio de Janeiro. The city is famous for its modernist architecture, especially the distinctive buildings created by architect Oscar Niemeyer, and its urban plan by Lucio Costa. In 1987, Brasília was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its innovative city design and architectural importance.
