Santo Domingo de los Colorados is Ecuador’s fourth-largest city, with about 335,000 inhabitants, and serves as the capital of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Province.

Located about 133 km west of Quito in the western foothills of the Andes, it is a key commercial and industrial hub that links Quito with coastal cities such as Esmeraldas, Quevedo, and Chone.

The city’s name honors the local Tsáchila people, known as “the dyed” because men traditionally stain their hair red with achiote, and their cultural presence is celebrated with a prominent statue near the town center.
