Hotel Pyramid Rome: A Budget Base in the Testaccio Quarter
Hotel Pyramid Rome is a two-star property in the Ostiense-Testaccio area, named for the Piramide — an ancient Roman pyramid dating to around 12 BC — which sits a short walk from the front door.
It is not a central Rome hotel in the traditional sense, but it is a well-connected one: the metro is 400 metres away, the main railway station for airport trains is five minutes on foot, and the Colosseum is two stops by underground. For a budget stay in Rome, it is a hard combination to beat.
Location
The Piramide metro station (Line B) puts the Colosseum and Roman Forum two stops away, the Circus Maximus one stop, the Spanish Steps seven, and the Vatican ten. Bus line 23 runs directly along the Tiber to the Vatican for those who prefer to see the city at ground level.
Trastevere — Rome’s most characterful dining and nightlife neighbourhood — is a 20-minute walk. The beach is reachable in around 40 minutes.
The area around the hotel is functional rather than picturesque: a Carrefour, a Burger King, a bar next door that closes late. It is not the Rome of postcards, but it is safe, well-served by transport, and lined with decent local restaurants and cafes.
No elevator. There are at least three floors, which matters if you are arriving with heavy luggage or have mobility concerns.
Rooms
The hotel has 39 rooms, all with private bathrooms, air conditioning, television, minibar, and safe. Rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. Some rooms have recently been renovated and are spacious and well-equipped; others are more basic.
Bathrooms are small and sound insulation is limited, which is worth bearing in mind given the bar next door and the hotel’s popularity with groups.
Some rooms have a view over the Pyramid, which is a nice bonus.
Food and Drink
Breakfast consists of toast, pastries, yoghurt, ham, cheese, cereal, and unlimited hot drinks and juice. It is served in the basement until 9.30am, which is early by Roman standards.
The hotel restaurant serves traditional Roman dishes that are fresh, well-prepared, and good value.
Facilities and Service
Beyond the basics, the hotel offers daily housekeeping, a front desk, and free Wi-Fi. Staff are friendly, though service has occasionally been reactive rather than anticipatory, particularly around restocking rooms.

Overall
Hotel Pyramid Rome delivers exactly what it promises: a clean, affordable base with good transport links and friendly staff. It is not the place to come for romance or design, but for a first trip to Rome on a budget, or a flying visit built around sightseeing, it is a sensible and well-priced choice.
Request an upper-floor room with a Pyramid view if one is available, and pack earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
