Mikayla Resort, Chilaw: A Rooftop Retreat in Sri Lanka’s North West
Opened in 2022, Mikayla Resort sits in the centre of Chilaw town in Sri Lanka’s North Western Province. It’s the strongest accommodation option in the area — 10 spacious rooms, a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views, and fantastic service.
Location
Chilaw town is immediately outside the door. Katunayake International Airport is the closest major transport hub, and Colombo is 80 kilometres away — manageable as a transfer or day trip.
Munneswaram Temple is within a short drive; Negombo Beach is around 40 kilometres out.
One practical note: the approach road is narrow and single-lane in places.
Rooms
10 rooms across two types — 8 Deluxe Double and 2 Deluxe 4×4 — all with balcony views and free WiFi.
Rooms are exceptionally spacious for the price, with modern attached bathrooms, king-size beds, air conditioning, flat-screen TV, refrigerator, and 24-hour room service.
The building is new and well-maintained throughout.
Restaurant
The rooftop seats 250 and doubles as the hotel’s main event venue — birthdays, corporate dinners, and receptions.
The food is fantastic, the bar is fully stocked and serves liquor, and the views across the surrounding countryside are the best reason to linger. Live music runs on weekends in the sky lounge.
Facilities & Service
Free parking with ample space. Airport shuttle available. Conference hall, banquet hall, and nightclub on site. Visa and Mastercard accepted. No pool.
Service is the resort’s most consistent strength — staff are attentive and responsive, and the manager Sanjewa, is exceptional.
