Tigers Lodge, San Rafael: A Finca Hideaway in the Heart of Ibiza
Tigers Lodge is a small finca hotel in San Rafael, sitting midway between Ibiza Town and San Antonio with views stretching down toward the capital.
Twelve individually decorated rooms, a pool, an outdoor kitchen, a barbecue area, and a covered terrace make up the physical property — but what distinguishes it is harder to describe: a particular atmosphere, built over more than a decade by owners Jenny and Gregor, that has turned first-time guests into people who come back two or three times a year and bring their families.
Location
San Rafael sits at the centre of the island, which makes the lodge a practical base for all of Ibiza’s main attractions without committing to either the club circuit of San Antonio or the more polished scene around Ibiza Town. Several restaurants are within easy walking distance, including El Clodenis 650 metres away and Ca’n Pilot a short drive further. Free parking is available on site.
The Universe club — one of the island’s largest — is directly across the road. In practice this has not been the problem it sounds: the building is well soundproofed, and the lodge has a protective wall. Worth knowing before you book, but not, in practice, a reason to look elsewhere.
Rooms
All twelve rooms and bungalows are individually decorated, each with its own character and mood — antiques, art, and objects gathered from around the world give the interiors a depth and personality that chain hotels cannot replicate. Some have a funky, eclectic energy; others are warmer and more intimate. All are well-maintained and clean.
The lodge is honest about its positioning: it suits guests who value individuality and atmosphere over luxury in the conventional sense. If a standard five-star finish is what you need, this is not the place. If character, comfort, and a genuine sense of place are what you are after, it is difficult to beat at the price.
Food and Drink
Breakfast is prepared by Jenny with care and variety — you are advised to try everything on offer. Twice a week the finca hosts communal dinners: a barbecue night and a prawn evening. The outdoor kitchen is central to the social life of the property and has been the setting for guest cooking sessions, impromptu gatherings, and a fair number of friendships that have outlasted the holiday.
Facilities and Service
The pool and sun terrace are well-kept and peaceful, with views across the island toward Ibiza Town. The barbecue area and outdoor kitchen are in regular use. Room service is available, and the owners are generous with local recommendations — restaurants, beaches, activities — drawing on over a decade of knowing the island well.
Jenny and Gregor are, by every account, the lodge’s defining quality. Their hospitality is personal, unhurried, and genuine, and the atmosphere they have created is welcoming.

Tigers Lodge has spent ten years becoming exactly what it is, and it shows. It is the kind of place that Ibiza used to be full of and now rarely is — relaxed, individual, run by people who genuinely care, and priced fairly for what it offers. If that sounds like your kind of holiday, book early and go in the knowledge that many of the other guests will already be friends with the owners.
